Shorecrest Beach Club Newsletter

September 2010

Welcome to the Beachcomber newsletter. We will be getting one out every quarter from now on.

Let us start with a correction to your annual assessment notice. The description was correct – May 1, 2010 to April 20, 2011. The coupons had the wrong dates. If you pay in full this doesn’t apply to you. The first coupon said payment due by August 30, 2010. Second payment due September 30, 2010. Third payment due December 31, 2010. Fourth payment due April 30, 2010. Corrections are as follows:

First Payment Due: July 31, 2010

Second Payment Due: October 30, 2010

Third Payment Due: January 31, 2011

Fourth Payment Due: April 30, 2011

Lastly, you are not past due if you pay in full by April 30, 2011.

A Message from Your Board

All our committees have been assigned and three of them are up and moving along with their various responsibilities. They are the Architectural, Communications and By-Laws committees. The Hearing and Activities committees are in need of member volunteers, so if you have an interest in these areas, contact Lou, in the office, so she can take your name and phone number. She will contact the appropriate Board member to get back to you. All committee meetings will be posted on the office door. Any member is welcome to attend, but these will be work meetings and discussion from observers will be kept at a minimum. You are all, certainly, encouraged to submit suggestions in writing. Your input is valuable and appreciated.

Youth/ Community Activities

We have learned a lot about gardening this summer. One thing for sure is children and youth dissolve in the heat and sprout up everywhere EXEPT the garden. We will continue to improve our garden area and welcome your fall leaves for mulch. Many thanks to Renters in our community for pitching in to pull weeds fertilize and water. Now if we could just get members involved….. School will be starting soon and summer will be at an end. To celebrate a relatively problem free season, the pool attendants and Activities are co-sponsoring a Summers End Luau on September 11. There will be various activities planned throughout the day and a Hawaiian Buffet will be served beginning at 3PM. Several permanent floral arrangements, created by a professional designer, will be offered at raffle, to provide “seed” monies for next year’s pool season and activities. This is also the final midnight swim of the season, so we hope you will come out and join in the festivities. Should we experience inclement weather; the pool temperature will be raised for your comfort. This function is financed solely by fund raising and is a gift to our community.

TOTEM

There is something new in Shorecrest. It is a totem located at 21 E Orchard Lane. Don’t miss this one. Drive all the way down Parkway and the road automatically turns into Orchard Lane. The totem is on your left and is worth the drive.

POOL NEWS:

The Pool staff would like to give a Big Thank You to all who have come and enjoyed the pool this year. The pool was always busy this season. This year we sold snacks at the pool and with the money we raised the Pool Staff is putting on a LUAU for the Community on September 11, 2010 at 3pm so please come and enjoy. This will also be our Last Midnight Swim for the season. We hope to see you next season. As Pool Manager, I would like to take this time to say Thank You to Mechelle and Glen Richling for all their hard work this year.

Please note: The Pool will be open at 11AM after school starts until September 15. If there are no swimmers before the school day ends at 3PM, the will not open until 3PM excluding water aerobics.

We bought new pool cushions this year for the chaise lounges and chairs. They are very nice, guaranteed for 10 years against the elements; chlorine, saltwater, suntan oil and the members seem to love them.

THANKS

We would like to take this time to say a BIG THANK YOU to Margaret Engel, Jayson, John, Brian and Shane Davis for all their hard work with the Bake Sale-Hot Dog Sale and Garage sale for the Pool. We would also like to thank Puss & Pups Staff and the Davis Boys for all their hard work with the Dog Wash.

LADIES GROUP

Many ladies in Shorecrest attend the monthly “Ladies Night Out” potlucks held every third Tuesday of the month. Sometimes the function is held at someone’s home. In September, Karen Schroeder is turning her home into Margaritaville. She lives on Orchard Lane just down from the boat launch on the water. So bring your favorite Mexican dish and join the fun. In addition, the ladies have a craft day on the first Wednesday of the month. It begins at

10:00 in the morning and continues until 2:00 pm. Bring whatever craft you are currently working on and a sack lunch. Don’t be surprised if one of the ladies brings some kind of scrumptious muffins, cookies, etc. Many of the ladies in Shorecrest are excellent cooks. Also, sometimes we are lucky and one of our many talented ladies gives us instructions on a project like making earrings, bracelets, vests, pine needle baskets and more. Even if you don’t do crafts come just for the conversation and camaraderie.
