Burn Ban in Place

  • The Mason County Community Development Director, as acting Fire Marshal, and in partnership with the Mason County Fire Chiefs’ Association, has determined that current weather conditions within Mason County have created substantial fire dangers and that there is a need to enact restriction on outdoor burning to all lands regulated by Mason County. This burn restriction applies to OUTDOOR BURNING, including land clearing, yard debris, and permit burns; and does NOT include prohibition of attended recreational fires, charcoal briquette barbeques. The use of gas and propane barbeques will continue to be allowed under the restriction.

Community Garden_1As you have probably noticed, the Shorecrest garden team has been hard at work creating a wonderful garden for our community. Thank you to everyone on the team for donating your time and expertise, and a special thank you to our local garden expert, Ameilia Savinova, who has piloted this project. Since becoming involved in our garden, Amelia has gone on to become a Master Gardener and her vision to expand Shorecrest’s community garden is taking shape. She has done a great job bringing members together on the project. The new garden is now the “Connie West Community Garden” in memory of its previous caretaker who spent many hours developing and nurturing a place for the community to access fresh produce.

Our annual Shorefest is scheduled for Saturday August 21st.  This year we are planning a Fiesta party with a full day of activities planned.  There will be live music featuring local talent from our neighborhood  and we will be serving delicious Mexican cuisine from 1 -4pm.  Games for all ages will be set up including the return of our Giant 75 ft slip and slide and of course the pool will be open.  Mark your calendars!! We hope to see all our Shorecrest friends and neighbors there!

Spring clean-up

For the most part the Spring clean-up was a great success.  Sixty-seven loads of garbage and trash were brought to the clubhouse.  There was more garbage than we had room for and by noon on Sunday both bins and both trailers had been filled.  Unfortunately, later more garbage was not only left there, but the dumpster lids vandalized. If anyone has any information regarding this, please contact the office.  This was very disappointing and hard to understand why some people feel the need to ruin a good thing for everyone.

On Saturday, May 1, 2021 from 9-11am, we invite Shorecrest kids from 8-16 years of age to help plant dahlias in the Connie West Community Garden.  Expect to learn from local gardeners about Dahlias, and how to plant them from local gardeners and then we will actually plant dahlias in the garden.
Wear clean gloves, a mask, and bring a trowel if you have one.
All participants will follow Washington State University Guidelines for Community Gardens distancing and wearing masks to keep safe and healthy!
Face Masks Required

Thanksgiving Baskets

A favorite time for us to gather as a community has been to share our traditional Thanksgiving feast. Unfortunately due to the continued pandemic we were not been able to have that special event this year.  But, thanks to  generous friends and neighbors, our office manager, Carolynne, was able to pull together a Thanksgiving  food basket for 16 less fortunate families in Shorecrest!  That's a lot of turkeys and fixin's!  Thank you to all the Shorecrest members who donated food and money and a special thank you to Carolynne who made it all happen.  What a great neighborhood we live in!

Shorecrest Tiny Library

If you are bored and looking to pass the time during COVID 19, take a walk  down Orchard Ln in our Shorecrest neighborhood and find a good book!  Local Shorecrest neighbor, John Christensen has used his "stay at home time" during the Coronavirus pandemic to not only create a neighborhood library, but to also create a beautiful dry creek surrounding it.  His plan is to add a bench to welcome neighbors to stop by, relax, and find a good book.  It's a great way to trade books with the neighborhood!  Head toward Jacoby boat launch, turn left and you'll see it on the right just a couple houses down.Stop by, drop off a book and find a new one.  Thanks, John, for being such a great neighbor!!
