COMMUNITY GARDEN UPDATE
As you have probably noticed, the Shorecrest garden team has been hard at work creating a wonderful garden for our community. Thank you to everyone on the team for donating your time and expertise, and a special thank you to our local garden expert, Ameilia Savinova, who has piloted this project. Since becoming involved in our garden, Amelia has gone on to become a Master Gardener and her vision to expand Shorecrest’s community garden is taking shape. She has done a great job bringing members together on the project. The new garden is now the “Connie West Community Garden” in memory of its previous caretaker who spent many hours developing and nurturing a place for the community to access fresh produce. Unfortunately, due to the COVID 19 pandemic we have been unable to meet as a community for our usual events, but we hope this outdoor project will create a place where our members can wander through and watch the garden grow while maintaining social distance. The garden team plans to harvest and provide fresh produce to the community each Wednesday as it becomes available. We already have some plants available so watch for signs outside the garden bus stop/ produce stand!
The spaghetti dinner and BINGO made for an enjoyable evening with our shorecrest friends and neighbors. A special THANK YOU to Carolynne Brown, Janet Martini and Teresa Holcomb for preparing the delicious spaghetti dinner. Also thanks to Ameilia Savinova, Pam Lau, Marcia Jacobson and Peggy Flom for bringing the cookies. Be sure to check out the fun pictures (by Pam Lau) of the event. Stay dry and see you at our next event!
Our September Ladies Night hosted a High Tea to welcome new neighbors to community. Various teas, sandwiches and desserts were served on beautiful china and the clubhouse decorated with beautiful flower bouquets picked from neighborhood gardens. Thanks to those who put so much effort into creating a lovely evening for the ladies in our neighborhood. The ladies group meets for a potluck dinner at 6PM the 2nd Tuesday of every month at the club house.
This year at Shorefest, many friends and neighbors gathered at the “Surf Shack”/“Tiki Bar” to enjoy good music, food and fun. This year’s theme was “Margaritaville” so the music, food and décor all had a Jimmy Buffet vibe. “Cheeseburger’s in Paradise” were served as well as southern style jambalaya. The slip ‘n slide was a hit with the kids (and also a couple brave adults). Rocks were painted that will be placed in our Shorecrest community garden and there was a pirate ship as well and even a pirate! A special THANK YOU!! to our Shorefest “Margaritaville” team for creating beautiful surf boards and buoys that were used as decorations and also for all the hard work they did that day!
